We are now offering themed tours which can be specially tailored to the interests of any particular group. With centuries of history as one of Scotland’s most important castle’s, and an exciting future ahead, there is an enormous amount to discover. For anyone interested in arts and crafts, there’s the wonderful opportunity to spend an hour in the company of one of the world-class weavers making the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries which hang on the wall of the Chapel Royal. Equally fascinating is the chance to find out about the historical research and archaeological excavations which have been necessary to ensure that our recreation of the palace interiors are fully authentic. This includes the intriguing story behind the five year project to hand-carve a complete replica set of The Stirling Heads – metre-wide oak medallions which once adorned palace ceilings. The guided tours of the castle and Argyll’s Lodgings are a perfect way to find out about the events that shaped their histories, and the intriguing people who lived within their walls.
