Tailor-made Tours

A tour at Stirling CastleWhat was it like to live in a medieval castle or a great Renaissance townhouse? How do you recreate a sumptuous 16th-century tapestry or return a royal palace to how it looked in its heyday? We are now offering themed tours which can be specially tailored to the interests of any particular group. They are a great way to get expert insights into the history of Stirling Castle, and the nearby Argyll’s Lodging, and to discover the amazing stories behind our projects to transform its future.

With centuries of history as one of Scotland’s most important castle’s, and an exciting future ahead, there is an enormous amount to discover. For anyone interested in arts and crafts, there’s the wonderful opportunity to spend an hour in the company of one of the world-class weavers making the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries which hang on the wall of the Chapel Royal. Equally fascinating is the chance to find out about the historical research and archaeological excavations which have been necessary to ensure that our recreation of the palace interiors are fully authentic. This includes the intriguing story behind the five year project to hand-carve a complete replica set of The Stirling Heads – metre-wide oak medallions which once adorned palace ceilings. The guided tours of the castle and Argyll’s Lodgings are a perfect way to find out about the events that shaped their histories, and the intriguing people who lived within their walls.

As our private themed talks and tours are all about choice, you can mix and match elements of each to suit your interests. There are also a range of options for times – as some prefer a daytime visit, while others enjoy the chance to have the castle or lodgings to themselves in the evening. As part of the visit we can also provide catering, whether you just fancy teas and coffees or want to make it a real occasion with lunch or dinner in the High Dining Room of Argyll’s Lodging – where the greatest nobles in the land once feasted
