Historic Scotland
Our main office is in Edinburgh but our staff, properties, monument conservation units and regional offices are spread across the country. The agency has had a number of different names and emphases of function over the past few decades but we became Historic Scotland in 1991.
Key roles
Our responsibilities are widespread and encompass tourism and education through the properties in our care; safeguarding the nation’s heritage through our role in the planning system and leading the way in research and training in traditional building skills and materials.
