A Date with Royalty
Make the most of your weekend and meet Renaissance royalty at our King’s New Palace event -
8th and 9th May.

It’s not every day that you get to mix with royalty as they arrive to inspect a new residence. But that’s just what you can do on the weekend of 8th and 9th May – well sort of. We’ve got a lovely family event lined up involving costumed performers in the roles of James V, Mary of Guise and their entourage. They will be returning us to 1542 and a visit by the Scottish king and queen to see how the builders and decorators were getting on with the palace they were having built.
What really adds to the fun of the idea is that right now their palace is once again full of craftsmen, artists and tradesmen of all kinds who are busily returning it to how it looked in the Renaissance. It’s a great chance to hear all the court gossip of the day – and there was plenty of it as the period was full of plots and intrigue. And it’s also a way to discover more about all sorts of other aspects of Renaissance life like the fashions, food, weaponry and entertainment.
The event will include a varied programme designed to suit all ages. Activities will take place between 12.30pm and 3.30pm on both days and it’s all included in the standard ticket price.
