My Stirling Castle

Stirling Castle

People all over the world have links with Stirling Castle – perhaps from a recent visit, or due to a big event, or possibly through their ancestors. We want to hear about your connections to this great fortress, whether it’s something big or small, from modern times or long ago.

One example is Jean Birch who contacted us a few weeks ago to say that she had been researching her family tree only to discover a direct link to King James IV and his mistress Margaret Drummond, who he housed in Stirling Castle in 1496/7, before the birth to their daughter Margaret Stewart.

Jean visited the castle in the early 1970s, and with the maiden name of Wallace couldn't help but be interested in its history. At that time she was unaware of the ancestral link but now hopes to come to see us again in 2011, when she will see the refurbished royal palace.

We’d like to put some of the stories about your castle connections on our website – and we’ll send a Stirling Castle pen and keyring as a wee thank you to everyone whose tale we tell.
