Gun Salute for Her Majesty
A royal gun salute will take place on 21 April to mark the birthday of Her Majesty, The Queen. Such salutes are a regular and eagerly anticipated event in Stirling Castle’s calendar and make a special treat for visitors.

This year there will be plenty to enjoy, with the band of the Life Guards providing musical entertainment for the public in the Great Hall from 10.30am to 11.00am. Senior military figures and VIP guests will then arrive at the castle. According to tradition the salute itself will take place at noon, with the guns being fired by members of the Glasgow and Strathclyde University Officer Training Corps.
Castle manager Gillian MacDonald said: “The salutes are really enjoyable occasions. The band will play a selection of music, including popular favourites, which everybody knows. And the sight and sound of the army’s three guns firing a 21-gun salute from the French Spur is truly impressive.”
