A park and ride service will operate from 1st June until 1st October 2011 Monday-Saturday. The service will run from Castleview Park & Ride to Stirling Castle esplanade from 8.59am to 6.20pm. The complete route will take approximately 15 minutes and will pass through the city centre as well as other local attractions including the Old Town Jail and Church of the Holy Rude. ACCESS FOR ALL
We want to provide the best possible access for all those who want to enjoy Stirling Castle. One of the most important is that Historic Scotland offers free entry for one-to-one carers accompanying disabled visitors.
The Access Gallery
Our Access Gallery, located in the palace vaults, has been designed to enable visitors with mobility difficulties to experience areas which are inaccessible. For instance if you are unable to visit the sumptuously decorated Royal Lodgings, you can discover everything about them in this fully accessible gallery. As well as images, interactives and tactile objects, the displays include information on the many specialised crafts used to produce the Palace’s décor and furnishings.
Courtesy Vehicle
Stirling Castle has a courtesy vehicle for visitors who have difficulty with steep inclines and steps.
Wheelchair Users
The castle apartments are accessible by wheelchair. The areas which cannot be reached in a wheelchair are the Museum of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, the medieval kitchens and the Elphinstone Tower.
Braille
Braille information boards are on display and a braille guidebook is available from the gift shop.
Disabled Toilets & Baby Changing
Disabled access toilets and baby changing facilities are available at the Guardroom Square and the Great Hall.
Dogs
Only guide dogs and assistance dogs are permitted in the castle.
Parking
Parking, including disabled spaces, is available on the castle's esplanade.

How long should I allow for seeing the key highlights of the castle?
We recommend that you allow at least two hours for the must-see attractions in the castle and to get the most out of your visit.
What's the weather like in Scotland?

Do Members of Historic Scotland get free entry to Stirling Castle?
Yes, Historic Scotland members can visit the castle free of charge. They also receive a 20% discount in the shops.
Are pets allowed in the castle?
Pets are not allowed on-site but guide dogs and hearing dogs are.
Can I smoke during my visit?
Smoking in all public enclosed places is prohibited in Scotland.
Can I store my luggage with you while I visit the castle?
Bags and backpacks are allowed in the castle and must be kept with you at all times.
What facilities are there for non-English speaking visitors?
Audio guide tours are available in German, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese. Souvenir guide books are also available in these languages from the Stirling Castle shops.
