You can now enjoy homemade delights such as double chocolate muffins, fudge cake and millionaire’s shortbread at the new-look Unicorn Café. As well as a major refurbishment of the café itself our caterers, benugo, have created a brand new bakery beneath the castle’s Great Hall. The result is a wonderful range of freshly baked treats to enjoy in a comfortable and relaxed setting.

Indeed, the first thing visitors see when they step inside the café is a beautiful oak table laden with treats from the bakery. The whole of the serving area has been remodelled, with attractive tiling, new counters and an extra till to cut down on queuing time. As well as cakes and pastries, there are a wide range of sandwiches and hot meals available, many made using prime Scottish ingredients. Teas, coffees, soft drinks, wines and beers are also for sale. Large wooden benches plus new chairs and tables have been introduced in the dining areas, and the café now has a more comfortable and spacious feel.

The bakery is staffed by Narinder Kalsi and Fiona Acheson – with shifts starting at 5.30 in the morning. They not only provide cakes and tray bakes for Stirling, but for Edinburgh Castle as well. And the plan is for further expansion to serve the Historic Scotland attractions of Fort George and Urquhart Castle.
