Share Your Argylls Memories
Our photographic exhibition honouring the role of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at the castle proved to be a success. By the time it ended, at the end of January, it had been enjoyed by a large number of visitors – some of whom have contacted us about their own links with the regiment and the castle.

Some of the stories and memories that people told us have been marvellous. We have heard from the likes of Bill Baxter, the PT instructor who put recruits through their paces in the late 50s, and Kay Boyde who spent part of her childhood here – her dad being the much-decorated and hugely respected Regimental Sergeant Major, Paddy Boyde. Others have been in touch about Argylls from more distant times, such as Angela Gillespie whose ancestor James McKenna joined up to fight in the Boer War.
It’s all great stuff and we would love to hear more and to put some of these fascinating, and often very moving, stories up on our website. So please do write to us about any links that you have with the Argylls and the castle. It’s such an important time in its history and fully deserves to be recorded. We would also love to see any photos – but emailed versions as we’d hate any precious originals to get lost.
