Each wedding is unique. We are delighted to discuss your requirements and assist you in making your special event a memorable occasion. The following basic guidelines should be considered when planning a wedding at Stirling Castle.
How long can I hold a booking without obligation?
Historic Scotland will hold a provisional booking for a specific date on behalf of a client for a maximum of four weeks. The client is asked to complete a form with details of the event to confirm the booking. Written acknowledgement of the booking will be sent to the client upon receipt of a confirmation form.
When is my payment due?
A 50 per cent non-refundable deposit is required on confirmation of the booking. The balance of the facility fee is due eight weeks prior to the event. Historic Scotland reserves the right to request full payment on confirmation.
Can I bring my own caterer?
All clients must use the caterers contracted by Historic Scotland at Stirling Castle.
What do I get for my money?
The fee quoted is for:
exclusive evening use of Stirling Castle
on site facilities such as chairs, tables, candle stands and candles.
castle staff to ensure your guests' comfort and safety throughout the evening.
an event manager to plan your wedding with you and ensure your evening runs to plan.
a tour of the castle for your guests with one of our guides.
Where a package fee is quoted this includes food, beverage, table decor and entertainment in addition to the above.
Do I have exclusive use of the venue?
Yes, Stirling Castle is available outwith visitor hours only and is booked on an exclusive basis.
What are the maximum capacities at each venue?
The Great Hall can accommodate up to 300 guests seated for dinner. The Chapel Royal can accommodate up to 200 guests for dinner or alternatively up to 300 guests for a standing drinks reception.
Who sets up the room for my wedding ceremony?
Tables and chairs are set out by the team on site to the requirements you have discussed with your event manager. Your event manager will advise on the best times to arrange florists, wedding cake, band etc to arrive and set up.
Is smoking permitted?
Smoking is not allowed in any of the historical apartments but is permitted in the external courtyards of the Castle.
Is confetti permitted?
It is not permissible to throw confetti at any of the sites. This also includes bio-degradable products and rose petals. A suggested alternative is to use bubbles.
Is there a resident minister at Stirling Castle who can conduct Wedding Ceremonies?
No, the castle doesn't have a resident minister however your event manager will be able to provide contact details for Ministers who can conduct wedding ceremonies at Stirling Castle. The castle does not have a civil license so civil ceremonies are not permitted however humanist ceremonies can take place at the castle and your event manager can pass on details for humanist celebrants.
Do your properties permit civil partnership ceremonies?
Historic Scotland welcomes civil partnership ceremonies at Castle Campbell, Edinburgh Castle Gatehouse Suite, Edinburgh Castle Queen Anne Room, Huntingtower Castle, Linlithgow Palace, Urquhart Castle, Doune Castle and Aberdour Castle. Each venue offers a beautiful and unique setting for your ceremony and photography. Stirling Castle does not have a civil license so civil ceremonies are not possible, but wedding receptions following civil partnership ceremonies elsewhere are most welcome.
