There’s been a murder!

by StirlingCastle 17. February 2012 09:54

On 22nd February 1452 the body of Sir William, the 8th Earl of Douglas was found in the castle gardens covered in 26 stab wounds having been thrown from an upstairs window.

A special guided tour of one of Scotland’s most notorious historic crime scenes will take place to mark the anniversary of this very famous, if macabre episode in the castle’s history.

Castle Guide, Joe Bennett wilI lead an informative tour which will take in all the places linked to this dark deed and provide an enthralling insight into an event which changed history. Joe will also explain why part of the castle grounds are now known as the Douglas Gardens.

The tours will take place at 11am and 1pm on Saturday 18th, Sunday 19th and on the anniversary of the murder itself, Wednesday 22nd February.  The cost is included in the castle admission price.
